Our atelier in Alvarado, TX is currently seeking a Safety Specialist to join our team.  In this newly created role you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, training, and providing consultation and technical expertise on safety matters, to include formulating and directing policies to provide a safe work environment. The Safety Specialist will work with internal and external stakeholders to comply with all federal, state, and local safety regulations. 

 

 Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and manage an effective overall safety program to protect employees, equipment, and facility
  • Interpret, recommend, and comply with safety regulations and/or Company policies
  • Evaluate hazards within the facilities for safety risks
  • Develop safety procedures and programs for all departments and monitor safety compliance to reduce risk
  • Coordinate accident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and required documentation
  • Maintain contingency plans, including fire prevention and procedures for controlling hazardous spills in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements
  • Coordinate maintenance of Safety Data Sheets with Purchasing Agents to ensure accessibility at all times according to regulations
  • Develop inspection policies and establishes regular inspection schedules
  • Supervise mandatory safety training sessions for emergency preparedness, machine guarding,  lock out tag out, hazard communication, forklift safety, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor the maintenance of EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations
  • Create safety metrics that measure status and drive improvement
  • Work with the Crisis Management Team (CMT) and Crisis Operations Team (COT) on site security
  • Monitor professional literature and attend seminars to stay current with governmental compliance requirements
  • Advocate and cultivate change management initiatives throughout LVUSM
  • Participate in occasional benchmark trips to European facilities, sharing best practices
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects within the company with cross functional teams

Profile

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational, Health, and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Professional designation such as OHST, ASP, or CSP is desirable
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in the field, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be self-driven and take initiative
  • Excellent organization and time management skills are required
  • Proven effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including team building, meeting facilitation, and collaborative
  • problem solving/ decision making
  • Ability to drive and inspect both outdoor and indoor areas to observe compliance with established programs
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required, French is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel domestically/internationally, including commute between local sites
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results oriented, and continually changing environment

 

Physical/Environmental Working Conditions:

  • Climate controlled production workshop with moderate levels of noise due to sewing, preparation and cutting machines
  • Required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Accurate use of hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach with hands or arms
  • Vision abilities require close vision and ability to adjust focus in order to ensure quality of work produced
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs with or without accommodations
