Position

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle indirect tax and customs audits/investigations, advisory, planning and projects for South Asia zone
  • Responsible for maintaining indirect tax and trade compliance in South Asia with regulatory requirements on cross-border merchandise / non-merchandise shipments and to maintain/control the ownership of the accuracy of tariff code and the documents submitted to the authorities
  • Ensure the regional logistics/customs/trade requirements and import/export documentation requirements are fulfilled and completed
  • Manage international trade/custom matters, such as trade program eligibility, valuation, country of origin, markings, classification, CITIES process, recordkeeping and documentation requirements that will impact tax, the clearance or the movement of goods
  • Ensure indirect tax compliance (e.g. VAT/GST/Consumption/Excise taxes) and proper execution of issues related to indirect tax reporting
  • Demonstrate strong ability to analyze information and prepare quality, practical approaches to complex indirect tax & customs trade compliance enquiries
  • Identify indirect tax/customs’ risks during audits/investigations, or base on market conditions, business needs, and other impacts which link to indirect tax or trade compliance and/or other functions, and seek for improvement opportunities and propose recommendations and action plans
  • Keep company personnel aware of the indirect tax / customs risk areas by providing training and/or regulation updates for regional/local teams
  • Proactively follow changes in current and future indirect tax and customs trade legislation, and advises organization of coming changes including any potential impact and/or opportunities
  • Assist the CFO to coordinate on some legal matters for South Asia
  • Report to CFO - South Asia, dotted line to Tax Director of Asia Pacific

Profile

Requirements

  • Degree holder and Qualified or Chartered Accountant or equivalent
  • 10+ years of relevant tax experiences in indirect tax consulting with at least 2 years at managerial level, preferably gained in tax practices of Big 4 accounting firms, consultant firms and/or commercial tax practices in large MNCs
  • Solid experience in dealing with regional logistics/customs/trade requirements and import/export documentation requirement across South Asia as well as all indirect tax implication
  • An in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of international trade/custom matters, such as trade program eligibility, valuation, markings, classification, recordkeeping and documentation requirements that will impact tax, the clearance or the movement of goods
  • An in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of South Asia indirect tax regulations
  • Knowledge in retail business will be an added advantage
  • Strong project management, research, analytical and presentation skills
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work in a dynamic time sensitive environment with varying deliverable and changing requirements
  • Team player, energetic, mature and flexible
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skill
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English is a must
