Flashback to the preparations for the World Cup. While some were training on the pitch, the designers, leather buyers and leather artisans of Louis Vuitton were succeeding in another challenge: creating the Maison’s first-ever leather soccer ball.
The ball was manufactured in France from VVN (vache végétale naturelle) vegetable tanned cowhide; a leather that is particularly challenging to work, because of its limited flexibility and the difficulty involved in shaping it into a cylindrical form. With each one requiring more than six hours to make, there are 425 of these balls in existence... all were sold within a few minutes. It remains to be seen whether it will help us win the 2022 World Cup.
